Adipex Generic Name: Phentermine HCl

Adipex Classification: Appetite Suppressant (Non-Amphetamine)

Adipex is used for: Weight reduction (short-term)

General Directions for Taking Adipex: 

Take only as directed. DO NOT change dose or stop taking Adipex abruptly without talking to your doctor first. This may worsen side effects or increase risk of developing extreme fatigue and mental depression.
If you miss a dose of Adipex, take the Adipex as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next Adipex dose, take only 1 dose of Adipex. DO NOT double up the Adipex doses.
Take Adipex 1/2 to 1 hour before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast.
Avoid taking Adipex late in the day. This may increase difficulty with sleeping.
Diabetics need to monitor blood sugar closely. Adipex may alter your levels.
Use sugarless candy, gum or ice chips for dry mouth symptoms.
Continue exercise program and nutritional counseling as directed by your doctor.
Monitor your weight and keep a diary for your doctor.
See your doctor regularly to monitor the effectiveness of Adipex with routine blood tests, blood pressure screenings, and a physical exam.

Adipex Contraindications: 

Allergies - Hypersensitivity to Adipex or Adipex components
Patients with heart disease; arterioscerlosis (hardening of arteries); history of drug or alcohol abuse; glaucoma; moderate to severe high blood pressure; or uncontrolled thyroid disorders

Use Adipex with caution in: 

Pregnancy and Breast Feeding - Adipex may not be safe for your baby. Talk to your doctor about risks and benefits of Adipex.
Patients with diabetes, history of eating disorders, hypertension, or heart valve disease

Common Adipex Side Effects: 
May occur during the first few days after beginning therapy, but usually resolve: 

Restlessness, nervousness, blurred vision, dizziness, insomnia, moodiness, headache, euphoria, irritability, dry mouth, stomach pain, constipation, thirst, strange taste, sex drive changes, or impotence

Serious Adipex Side Effects: 
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: 

Chest pain; skin clamminess and sweating; fainting; difficulty breathing during activity; irregular heart rhythm; fast, pounding heart beat; involuntary movements; nausea, vomiting and diarrhea; problems with urination; double vision, eye irritation; chills, fever and muscle aches; or enlarged breast tissue in men
Allergic reaction symptoms such as a red skin rash; itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat; wheezing; chest pain; and difficulty breathing

Adipex Interactions: 

Drug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of Adipex. Some include antidepressants, diabetic medications, decongestants, caffeine-containing medicines, other appetite suppressants, and psychiatric agents.
It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with Adipex. DO NOT take any new medication without talking with your doctor first.
Food - Caffeine-containing foods like soft drinks, coffee, tea, or chocolate may increase stimulant effects.

Adipex Warnings: 

Adipex Overdose - Can lead to hyperactivity, mental confusion, lack of sleep, hallucinations, personality changes, depression, panic attacks, rapid breathing, excessive tiredness, muscle tremors, hyper reflexes, restlessness, irregular heart rhythms, high or low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, a severe skin rash, seizures, coma and even death.
Appetite suppressants such as Adipex may become habit forming. DO NOT increase the Adipex dose or use Adipex for longer than 12 weeks.
DO NOT drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Adipex may affect you. It may increase dizziness and drowsiness side effects.
Avoid alcoholic beverages. May worsen side effects.
Keep Adipex out of reach of children and pets.
