Celebrex Generic Name: Celecoxib
Celebrex Classification: Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Celebrex is used to treat:
Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Colorectal Polyps - Helps to reduce the number of polyps.

General Directions for Taking Celebrex:
Take Celebrex only as directed. DO NOT change
Celebrex dose or stop taking Celebrex without talking to your doctor first.
If you miss a Celebrex dose, take the Celebrex as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next
dose of Celebrex, take only 1 Celebrex dose. DO NOT double up the
Celebrex doses.
You may take Celebrex with or without food.
Talk to your doctor about an exercise program to help strengthen your bones and joints.
Apply sunscreen lotion (SPF 15 or greater), wear protective clothing, and avoid excessive sunlight exposure.
Celebrex may increase your sensitivity to sunlight.
Talk to your doctor about the need to wear a medical alert pendant or bracelet. There are many products that provide information to health care providers about your medicines and specific condition in case of an emergency.
See your doctor regularly to monitor the effectiveness of
Celebrex with lab tests, x-rays, and a physical exam.
Celebrex Contraindications:
Allergies - Hypersensitivity to Celebrex, Celebrex
components, sulfa-based drugs, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
Patients who have experienced an allergic reaction (asthma, hives, rash, itching) after taking NSAIDs or aspirin
Children less than 18 years of age
Use Celebrex with caution in:
Pregnancy and Breast Feeding - May not be safe for your baby. Talk to your doctor about risks and benefits.
Patients with liver or kidney disease; a history of alcoholism; heart disease, high blood pressure, heart failure, and clotting disorders; gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcer disease; dehydration or edema (fluid retention); asthma or nasal polyps
Patients taking oral steroids, anticoagulants, and chronic NSAIDs therapy
Elderly patients - May need lowest Celebrex dose necessary to control symptoms.
Common Celebrex Side Effects:
May occur during the first few days after beginning therapy, but usually resolve:
Nausea, abdominal pain, cramping, indigestion, bloating, dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, difficulty sleeping, nasal congestion, or back pain
Serious Celebrex Side Effects:
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
Respiratory tract infections; sore throat; inflammation of legs and arms; skin rash; excessive tiredness, jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyeballs), blurred vision, and unexplained weight gain; right upper quadrant abdominal pain; sudden, severe dizziness, black or tarry stools, blood in stools and vomiting blood; and an increased risk for injury
Allergic reaction symptoms such as a red skin rash; itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat; wheezing; chest pain; and difficulty breathing
Celebrex Interactions:
Drug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of
Celebrex. Some include high blood pressure medicines called ACE inhibitors, psychiatric medications like Lithium, large doses of aspirin, anti-fungals, and diuretics (water pills).
It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with
Celebrex. DO NOT take any new medication without talking with your doctor first.
Celebrex Warnings:
Celebrex Overdose - Can lead to worsening of side effects and symptoms.
Gastrointestinal bleeding can develop quickly and at times without obvious symptoms. Pay special attention to your symptoms and report anything unusual to your doctor immediately.
DO NOT drive or operate machinery when taking
Celebrex until you know the extent of dizziness and drowsiness side effects.
DO NOT take other NSAIDs or aspirin without talking to your doctor first. May increase the risk of developing ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding.
DO NOT drink alcoholic beverages while taking
Celebrex. May worsen side effects.
Keep Celebrex out of reach of children and pets.
