CIPRO
|
Cipro Generic Name: Ciprofloxacin
Cipro Classification: Antibiotic (Fluoroquinolones)
Cipro is used to treat:
Bacterial Infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract skin, bones and joints
Gonorrhea and Infectious Diarrhea
(These are common indications for Cipro. There may be additional conditions not listed here. Check with your doctor if you have questions about your specific condition).
General Directions for Taking Cipro:
Take Cipro only as directed. Schedule the Cipro doses around the clock and finish
the Cipro prescription. Finish all of the Cipro prescription even if you start to feel better. Stopping the
Cipro early may lead to stronger, more resistant forms of bacteria.
If you miss a Cipro dose, take the Cipro as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next
dose of Cipro, take only 1 Cipro dose. DO NOT double up the
Cipro doses. Female patients taking birth control pills should either abstain from sexual activity or use an additional form of contraception like condoms with
spermicide. Cipro reduces the effectiveness of the birth control pills. Talk to your doctor about your options.
Take Cipro 1-hour before meals or 2-hours after meals.
Cipro is absorbed better on an empty stomach. If
Cipro upsets your stomach, however, take with food.
Drink plenty of fluids when taking Cipro unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Rinse regularly with mouthwash, brush your teeth, and use sugarless gum or hard candy to limit dry mouth.
Shake oral suspension well before taking the Cipro
dose.
Avoid taking antacids with magnesium, calcium, or aluminum; iron or zinc supplements; or Carafate (anti-ulcer drug) 4 hours before or 2 hours after taking
Cipro
Use sunglasses, sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater, wear protective clothing, and avoid excessive sunlight exposure.
Cipro increases the risk of photosensitivity reactions.
Follow up with your doctor to monitor the effectiveness of
Cipro.
