Percocet Generic Name: Oxycodone HCl with Acetaminophen
Percocet Classification: Narcotic Pain Reliever with Acetaminophen
Other Names for Percocet: Oxycet, Percocet, Oxycontin, Roxicet, Roxilox, Tylox
Percocet is used to treat:
Moderate to severe pain

General Directions for Percocet:
Take Percocet as directed only. Remember that pain is difficult to manage if you wait too long. If you hurt, take your pain medicine. DO NOT try to tough it out.
If you miss a Percocet dose, take the Percocet as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next
dose of Percocet, take only 1 Percocet dose. DO NOT double up the
doses of Percocet. DO NOT increase your Percocet dose, use
Percocet for a longer period of time than prescribed, or stop taking
Percocet suddenly if you have been taking it for a prolonged period.
Percocet may become habit-forming.
Take Percocet with food or a tall glass of milk to prevent upset stomach symptoms.
Drink plenty of fluids to prevent constipation related to prolonged
Percocet use. See your doctor regularly to monitor the effectiveness of
Percocet.
Percocet Contraindications:
Allergies - Hypersensitivity to Percocet, Percocet
components, or acetaminophen
Patients with history of suicidal tendencies
Use Percocet with caution in:
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding - Talk to your doctor about the benefits and
risks of Percocet.
Elderly patients
Patients with recent head injury; severe kidney, liver or lung disease; thyroid disease; history of alcohol or drug abuse; undiagnosed abdominal pain; enlarged prostate; or increased intracranial pressure (swelling in brain)
Common Percocet Side Effects:
May occur during the first few days after beginning
Percocet therapy, but usually resolve:
Constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, skin flushing, or nausea and vomiting
Serious Percocet Side Effects:
Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
Blurred or double vision, hallucinations, flat or elevated mood, severe nausea and vomiting, difficulty urinating, tolerance (lack of pain control), headaches, unusual dreams, irregular heart beats, restlessness, or muscle tremors
Allergic reaction symptoms such as a red skin rash; itching; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat; wheezing; chest pain; and difficulty breathing
Percocet Interactions:
Drug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of
Percocet. Some include cold remedies (antihistamines), antidepressants (MAO inhibitors), sleep aids, other narcotic medications, psychiatric drugs, tranquilizers, anti-tuberculosis drugs, barbiturates, anti-seizure drugs, anti-viral agents and antacids.
It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about
Percocet dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with
Percocet. DO NOT take any new medication without talking with your doctor first.
Percocet Warnings:
Percocet Overdose - Can lead to liver damage, unconsciousness, coma and even death due to respiratory arrest. Especially if
Percocet is taken with alcoholic beverages. Avoid alcoholic beverages. May increase the dizziness and sleepiness.
DO NOT drive or operate heavy machinery when taking
Percocet due to dizziness and drowsiness side effects.
Notify your doctor if you are unable to control the pain with
Percocet.
Keep Percocet and all others out of reach of children and pets.
